Anti Aging Skin Care Tips

Aging is inevitable for us all. However, a vast majority of men and women don't want to look their age. Depending on the individual, one may look older than they actually are. There are many anti aging strategies that can erase the look of years off your face and impart a youthful glow. The key is to identify what you want to work on, then find the right products and strategies for your individual needs. Step one is to take a long look in the mirror and pinpoint the areas where improvement is desired.

Many people notice fine lines and even deep wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes, and around the mouth. Sagging skin, undereye bags and dryness are also common complaints. As we age, our production of human growth hormone diminishes and we notice these things along with other effects such as gray hair and even weight gain. When it comes to the skin, the best way to control these issues is with prevention. The problem is that people don't often think about getting a jump start on anti aging when they are in their twenties. In addition to the natural effects of aging, things can be made worse by unprotected sun exposure, poor diet and even sleeping on the wrong kind of pillowcase.

When it comes to prevention, the number one thing you can do is to wear sunscreen when outside in the sun. Sun damage is a leading cause of wrinkles and discoloration, not to mention skin cancer. Everyone wants that golden glow, however many don't realize they will pay for it later. If you want to look bronzed by the sun, avoid tanning beds, wear sunscreen outdoors and use a sunless tanner. Sunless tanners give you a safe tan and many contain beneficial ingredients to nourish the skin. Exfoliation before applying the product is important for an even tan.

Speaking of exfoliation, it should be a regular part of your skincare routine, regardless of your age or skin type. It is not necessary to exfoliate daily, a few times per week should suffice. There are anti aging face creams and serums that also help accelerate skin cell turnover to reveal new skin. A good time to exfoliate with a grainy scrub is in the shower, as the steam helps open the pores so the product can do its job. Apricot scrubs are a popular choice, however if those are too harsh for you there are other options. You can even make your own exfoliant by mixing jojoba oil and sugar into a paste. Jojoba oil is ideal for all skin types, but you can substitute a heavier oil like olive oil if your skin is very dry.

Each morning, make it a habit to cleanse your skin with a product suited to your skin type. There are cleansers for dry skin, oily skin, combination skin, sensitive skin and normal skin. After cleansing, you may want to use a toner to remove remnants of dirt, oil and makeup. Toners can be astringent for oily skin or moisturizing and soothing for dry or sensitive skin. Following the toner, which is not rinsed off, apply an anti aging treatment. If you have dry skin opt for a cream formula, other skin types may do well with a light serum or lotion. Ingredients to look for when shopping for a treatment include retinol, alpha hydroxy acid or glycolic acid. Many anti aging treatments contain natural ingredients like soy and vitamin E.

Give the treatment a few minutes to absorb into the skin, then apply sunscreen, even if it is a cloudy day. From there you can apply makeup if you wear it. Many cosmetics today, especially foundations and lip products, pull double duty as they contain ingredients to help fight aging. At night, use the cleanser and toner again. Choose a separate treatment product especially designed for nighttime use, you will usually see these touted as night creams. They are a bit heavier than day creams and serums and work while your body repairs itself during sleep. Sleeping on a satin pillowcase helps discourage creases and wrinkles, and even helps keep your hair from tangling.

If you want a faster, more intensive anti aging option, consider seeing a dermatologist. These professionals can perform chemical peels, laser treatments and more depending on your problem areas. They can also set you up on a medical grade skincare regimen to be used at home. As you can see, there are a variety of ways to achieve more youthful skin. Whether you use over the counter products or something prescribed by your dermatologist such as Retin-A, the key is to use the products consistently and as directed. It may take several months to notice results, and in some cases the skin gets worse before it gets better, but as long as you are vigilant about skincare and are using the right products for you a positive difference can be achieved.
